Lin Yang grew up in Sammamish and graduated from Eastlake High School in 2001. As a teen, he founded the Sammamish Youth Board, the city's first commission. He later founded the Sammamish Independent, the city's only newspaper, and trained high school students as reporters before stepping down to run for office. Yang holds a Bachelor's in Public Policy from Cornell University, a Master's in Public Policy from Harvard University, and an MBA from UCLA. His career has included roles as a journalist, public school teacher, budget consultant, and technology leader.
