I believe that our definition of affordable housing needs to match the diverse needs in our city. This means that we need to increase new affordable housing options for residents with different needs (ie., low-income residents, persons with disabilities, seniors, etc.), updated zoning and ordinances that allow for affordable housing options, density near transit, and easier permitting, and provide residential repair and rehabilitation programs to improve safety and reduce resident displacement, and pass policy to limit private equity purchases of single-family residences.

St. Petersburg is a city of the arts--and we need to take that seriously. Arts and culture are powerful economic drivers and important to the identity of our city, its residents, and our small businesses. I believe we can explore creative partnerships with our arts and culture community to better support these institutions and connect them with residents and small businesses. Additionally, I would fight for revisiting how bed taxes are used to support tourism to ensure that more arts and culture institutions and nonprofits are included.

As an openly queer candidate, long-time champion for reproductive health and access, and co-lead for passing the Resolution to Declare Racism a Public Health Crisis here in St. Pete, I know how critical protecting civil rights and equality is to our city. In a state that is openly hostile to minority groups, St. Petersburg stands as a beacon for diversity and belonging, and I will work to keep it that way.

As a candidate for St. Petersburg City Council District 6, I believe that smart growth is essential to our city’s future. This means updating our local laws to encourage mixed-use development, density, and transit options. By doing so, we can create vibrant, livable neighborhoods that are accessible to everyone. Smart growth also means updating and improving our infrastructure to protect our residents from flooding and prepare for the effects of climate change. I’ll work to ensure our growth is guided by a comprehensive plan driven by resident voices and prioritizing the needs of our community, not just the interests of large developers.

We are a peninsula on a peninsula with approximately 50% of our land in coastal high hazard areas--data centers do not belong here. Competition for land, water, and electricity will make our ability to solve the affordability crisis even harder if we allow data centers in our communities.

Our district is home to a persistent food desert -- it's time we take solving our food injustice issues seriously. As your future city councilmember, I am dedicated to building capacity for food access in South St. Petersburg, exploring different grocery models to eliminate the food desert, and continuing to build a sustainable system of food access in our community.
