Lisa Grafstein

Lisa Grafstein is a civil rights attorney who has lived in North Carolina for over 30 years. She earned a B.A. in English from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Her legal career began in 1995, and she ran her own law firm for 16 years before joining the nonprofit Disability Rights North Carolina as litigation counsel. Her work has focused on employment discrimination, voting rights, and disability rights. She was first elected to the North Carolina State Senate in 2022 and assumed office on January 1, 2023. As of 2023, she is the only openly LGBTQ+ member of the North Carolina State Senate.
