Lydia Marie Edwards is a Democratic State Senator representing the Third Suffolk District of Massachusetts. An attorney raised by a single mother who served in the U.S. Air Force, she previously served as Boston City Councilor for District 1 (East Boston, Charlestown, and the North End). She has worked as Deputy Director of Boston's Office of Housing Stability, Director of Legal Services at the Brazilian Immigrant Center, and Massachusetts Campaign Coordinator for the National Domestic Workers Alliance, where she led passage of the Massachusetts Domestic Workers Bill of Rights. She graduated summa cum laude from Marymount College, earned a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law. She serves as a Captain and Judge Advocate General (JAG) Officer in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
