Jason McCarthy is an incumbent District Court Judge for North Dakota’s Northeast Central Judicial District, Seat 5, in Grand Forks. Appointed in 2016 by Governor Jack Dalrymple, he has served on the bench since December 2016. Born in 1971, Judge McCarthy earned his Bachelor's in Criminal Justice from Minnesota State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law. Admitted to the North Dakota bar in 1999, he previously worked for 13 years as the chief deputy state’s attorney for Grand Forks County before his judicial appointment. He is running for re-election in the 2026 North Dakota Primary Election.
