Manpreet Kaur is the Vice Mayor of Bakersfield and represents Ward 7 on the City Council. Born and raised in Bakersfield, she earned a bachelor's degree from UC San Diego and two master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2016, she founded the Kern County chapter of the Jakara Movement, an organization focused on the health and wellness of Punjabi Sikh youth. Elected in 2022, Kaur is the first Sikh Punjabi woman to serve on the Bakersfield City Council.
