Mara Elliott is a Democratic candidate for California State Senate District 40 in 2026. She previously served two terms as the elected San Diego City Attorney from 2016 to 2024, becoming the first woman and first Latina to hold the office. During her tenure, she pioneered the use of gun violence restraining orders and relaunched a resource center for domestic violence victims. Previously, Elliott served as legal counsel to school districts and the local transit authority.
