Mari Leavitt, a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives, currently represents District 28-Position 1 and serves as Deputy Majority Whip. She assumed office in 2019 after being first elected in 2018, defeating the incumbent Republican. Leavitt holds an associate degree from Tacoma Community College, bachelor's and master's degrees from Western Washington University, and a PhD from Oregon State University. Prior to her legislative career, she chaired the Pierce County Ethics Commission. She is seeking re-election to her seat in the 2026 primary election.
