Maria Puente-Porras was appointed as a Judge to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in 2018 by Governor Jerry Brown. Prior to her appointment, she served as a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court starting in 2015. Before joining the bench, she was a sole practitioner from 1998 to 2015 and also served as of counsel at the Law Offices of James M. Hodges from 1999 to 2005. Her legal practice included Family Law, Criminal Defense, and Civil litigation. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Western State College of Law. She is currently the site judge at the Whittier Courthouse, which is a family law hub for Los Angeles County.
