Mark Anthony Figueroa is a first-generation Mexican American who was raised in the Tri-Cities, Washington. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History from Washington State University. His professional background is in education, having served under-resourced and low-income communities. He has worked as a teacher at Pasco High School and St. Patrick's Catholic School. In a previous role as a Diversity Advocate, he supported communities historically excluded from policymaking. Currently, he works as a Canvass Lead and Washington State Program Coordinator for Poder Latinx, focusing on the civic engagement of the Latinx community in Eastern Washington. The incumbent for the District 1 seat, Blanche Barajas, endorsed Figueroa for the position as she is not seeking reelection.
