Mark Harris was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on April 24, 1966. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Appalachian State University and went on to receive a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Harris has served as a senior pastor at several churches, including First Baptist Church in Charlotte. He was also the president of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Harris previously ran for U.S. Senate in 2014 and for the U.S. House in North Carolina's 9th district in 2016 and 2018. He won the Republican nomination for North Carolina's 8th Congressional District in 2024.
