Mark Takano is an American politician and former educator serving as the U.S. representative for California's 39th congressional district. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected to Congress in 2012. Prior to his election, Takano worked as a public school teacher for 23 years and served on the Riverside Community College Board of Trustees. He holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Riverside.
