Mary-Dulany James

Mary-Dulany James is a Democratic politician representing District 34 in the Maryland Senate, a role she assumed on January 11, 2023. An attorney by profession, her public service career began with a 16-year tenure in the Maryland House of Delegates, where she represented District 34A from 1999 until 2015. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, James earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, and subsequently obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law. Her successful 2022 Senate campaign followed previous unsuccessful bids for the same office in 2014 and 2018. Her narrow election victory marked a significant political shift, making her the first Democrat to represent District 34 in the state Senate since 1994.
