Matt Maasdam is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL commander and University of Michigan graduate who spent over two decades in the military, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served as a military aide to President Barack Obama. After leaving the military, Maasdam transitioned to the private sector as an executive at Under Armour and an e-commerce entrepreneur. He is currently running as a Democratic candidate to represent Michigan's 7th Congressional District.
