Past campaign details are available on the full race page.
Matthew Moonen, a Democrat from Portland, Maine, serves as the House Majority Leader and State Representative for District 117. First elected in 2012, he was inspired to enter politics by the fight for marriage equality. Moonen, who is openly gay and married, previously served as executive director of EqualityMaine. He earned his bachelor's degree from Northwestern in 2006. He has served multiple terms in the House, returning in 2022 after a term-limit hiatus, and was re-elected unopposed in 2024. He advocates for the proper functioning of state government, including presenting legislation to ensure realistic timelines for enacted laws, and has led efforts to protect gender-affirming care.
