Matthew Rupp grew up in Boone, North Carolina. He earned a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1996 and a J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 2001. After law school, he worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and later as a prosecutor in Mecklenburg County. He returned to his hometown of Boone to work in the District Attorney's Office for Watauga and Avery Counties before entering private practice. His professional experience includes serving as counsel to two U.S. Congressional Committees, being a presidential appointee of George W. Bush, and working as a former staff member to U.S. Senator Jesse Helms. He is also the President of the Watauga County Bar Association.
