Maya Vengadasalam was born in India and moved to the United States at the age of 11. She has been a resident of Kent, Washington since 1991. She earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University. Her career experience includes working in government operations, nonprofit leadership, and financial management. She served on the Kent School District School Board for eight years, including as president and legislative representative. She has also been affiliated with organizations such as the Washington State Charter School Commission, Tacoma Housing Authority, and the United Way of King County.
