McKayla Wilkes

McKayla Wilkes is a community organizer, activist, and Democratic candidate running for Charles County Commissioner in District 3. Wilkes previously ran for the U.S. House in Maryland's 5th Congressional District, challenging the political establishment with a grassroots, working-class platform. Drawing from her personal experiences, she founded "Schools Not Jails" in 2020 to advocate for criminal justice reform and combat the school-to-prison pipeline. In her campaign for County Commissioner, Wilkes is prioritizing community-first development, fully funded schools and infrastructure, housing stability for working families, and strong accountability in local government.
