Dr. Melissa Bedford has over a decade of experience in education as a public school teacher, a university professor, and a previously elected school board director in Spokane. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, as well as a Master's and a Doctorate in Education with an emphasis on Literacy Studies. She resigned from the Spokane Public Schools Board in August 2024 after being elected in 2021, to relocate and return to teaching fourth grade in Seattle Public Schools. Her campaign focuses on bringing a current educator's voice and experience to the board.
