Before becoming a judge, O'Gara served as a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County from 1991 to 2008. His assignments as a prosecutor included handling cases in Compton, Glendale, Burbank, and Pasadena, and he worked on juvenile felony, sexual assault, and murder cases. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1987 and his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1990.
