Michael J. Nicholson is the Mayor of Gardner, Massachusetts, and the city's first Hispanic/Latin American elected official. He graduated cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with dual bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, earned an Accelerated Master of Public Policy from the UMass School of Public Policy (where he became the first Beacon Hill Fellow), and earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. He previously worked in the office of former Senator Jennifer Flanagan and began his public-service career as a high-school intern for then-Mayor Mark Hawke.
