Michael Schietzelt

Mike Schietzelt is an attorney and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives for District 35 in the November 2024 general election and assumed office in January 2025. He grew up in Burlington, North Carolina. Schietzelt earned a bachelor's degree in Music Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2008 and a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law in 2018. He served in "The Commandant's Own" United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011 to 2015. His legal career includes clerking for a North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice, working as a Criminal Justice Fellow with the John Locke Foundation, and as a litigation attorney with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP. He has also taught constitutional law at Regent University School of Law. He lives in Wake Forest with his wife and four sons.
