Michael Schnoes, a 43-year-old industrial technology teacher at Alta-Aurelia High School, is campaigning as a Republican for Iowa House District 5 in 2026. This is his second attempt for the seat; he ran as an independent in 2024 and unsuccessfully sought the GOP nomination two years prior. A rural Sutherland resident, Schnoes is motivated by a desire to fight for Iowans' "God given rights." He plans to introduce approximately 40 "common-sense bills" on his first day, covering reforms for eminent domain, property taxes, education, parental rights, infrastructure, and children's health and safety.
