Michael John Shultz is an incumbent judge for the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, a position he has held since his appointment by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in 2012. He earned his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his J.D. from Loyola Law School Los Angeles. Shultz began his legal career in 1991 at the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office, where he worked for over a decade, eventually becoming a Deputy Public Defender IV, handling capital murder cases. In 2005, he transitioned to academia, becoming a law professor and the clinical director of the Loyola Law School Center for Juvenile Law and Policy. In 2009, he was elected as a Superior Court commissioner before his judicial appointment. His current term is set to end on January 4, 2027.
