John Michael Schaefer is a Democratic member of the California State Board of Equalization, representing District 4 since 2019. He is currently running for the U.S. House to represent California's 48th Congressional District. Earlier in his career, he served on the San Diego City Council from 1965 to 1971. Schaefer earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a law degree from Georgetown University. He has also worked as an attorney and financial analyst.
