Monika Johnson-Hostler is a native of Thomasville, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Fayetteville State University and a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University. For over two decades, she served as the Executive Director of the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault. In 2013, she was elected to the Wake County Public School System Board of Education, where she served until 2025. She assumed office as the representative for North Carolina's 33rd House district on January 1, 2025. Her career has included appointments to national committees by former President Barack Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder, contributing to the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. She lives in Raleigh with her husband and daughter.
