Nikki Otero Lockwood was raised in Spokane and graduated from University High School. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Eastern Washington University and worked as a registered dietitian. Her advocacy for special education equity led to her employment with the ACLU of Washington. Lockwood has volunteered extensively in Spokane Public Schools. She is the first Latinx/Hispanic person to be elected to public office in Spokane. Her term as President of the board expires in November 2025.
