He originally came to the island in 1978 to be a staff member at Camp Nor'wester, where he worked as a caretaker and facilities manager before becoming a director of the camp in 1989 alongside his wife, Christa Campbell. His community involvement includes being a school bus driver for 40 years, a Kung Fu instructor, and volunteering for Lopez Community Land Trust as a carpenter and supervisor. He has also served on the boards of the Historical Society and the Yacht Club. In June 2025, it was reported that he had filed to run for his third term as Port Commissioner.
