Rashida Tlaib is the incumbent U.S. Representative for Michigan's 12th Congressional District, having served in Congress since 2019. Born and raised in Detroit to Palestinian immigrant parents, she earned a B.A. in political science from Wayne State University and a J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Prior to her election to Congress, Tlaib served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. She has also worked as an attorney for the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice.
