Reid Ekberg, a lifelong Gig Harbor resident, was appointed to the City Council in December 2024 to fill the seat vacated by Mary Barber. He is the president of an insurance agency founded by his grandfather in 1896. Ekberg previously served two terms on the city's planning commission and is an advisory board member for the Gig Harbor YMCA and the Gig Harbor BoatShop. His father, Steve Ekberg, served on the city council for nearly four decades.
