Renee Cai

Associate Editor in Ithaca, NY

Hi everyone! I’m Renee, a double major in Economics and Government from New York City. I currently serve as an Associate Editor and Staff Writer for the Cornell Business Review. I have been deeply committed to CBR, (actually) spending hours upon hours of my time writing, editing and perfecting articles. Coming to Cornell, I knew immediately that CBR was the perfect place for me to thrive and make a difference. I am passionate about business and finance, and have loved journalism for as long as I can remember. When I was 10, I founded my first magazine (produced entirely “in-house”), called The Ridiculouso. In high school, I – more legitimately – founded and led two major publications, accepting contributions from and collaborating with high schoolers in Ohio, California, Brazil, Mexico, the Netherlands, and many other places. I even spent the time crafting a detailed and highly effective article-writing curriculum for science instructors to utilize in classrooms, which was ultimately incorporated into courses taught at schools across the U.S. As President, I will not only utilize my award-winning and highly polished writing and editing skills to ensure that every single sentence, article, and issue that we publish is top-notch quality, but I will also take on bold initiatives to bring this publication to new heights. I want the Cornell Business Review to be a name that everyone knows. As President, I will pioneer the Cornell Business Review Advisory Council, an initially small group of professors, alumni, and graduate students who can advise and mentor us, provide public endorsements to boost the credibility and legitimacy of our publication, and connect us with networking, journalism, and internship opportunities. Utilizing their support as well as our individual networks, we can expand readership, recruit top talent, and organize events featuring guest speakers for the entire Cornell community. I would also be honored to spearhead the Cornell Business Review podcast, which could consist of short, bite-sized episodes that might summarize or discuss published articles and feature interviews with Cornell affiliates and even entrepreneurs, professors and researchers beyond Cornell. Potential titles for the podcast include “Big Red Business” and “From the Hill to Wall Street” (lol). I also believe that a club’s social media presence says a lot about their image and prestige, and that social media is one of the most effective and efficient ways to advertise a publication and recruit both writers and readers. I will oversee the creation of short-form social media content, like Instagram reels or posts summarizing articles in 60 seconds. Finally, I will look for ways to strengthen connections with alumni, including an alumni mentorship program and special social events. I know that some of these outlined ideas might sound a bit bold. But I have both the ambition and skills to help make them happen. As someone who not only founded and led multiple clubs in high school but also cumulatively managed three hundred students across my extracurriculars and co-hosted events that brought over 600 people in my school community together, I understand what it takes to elevate an organization to the next level. I will listen to your individual wants and needs and make sure that you feel included and listened to, just like I have.

  • Sam Yun: I am happy to endorse Renee for CBR President. Aside from her positive demeanor and active engagement in club meetings, something that caught my attention as Head of Design was her level of journalism--the time spent and passion to her craft is more than evident. Renee's policies for President align closely with my hopes and goals for the future of CBR, from a specific team of mentors/leaders to an expanded media presence. For these reasons, I am honored to endorse Renee Cai for CBR President.
