Rita Salain is a Franklin native who graduated from Franklin High School, attended Appalachian State University, and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She has a 40-year career in public health, primary care, and rural health, including managing her own consulting practice for two decades. She moved back to Franklin in March 2020 and was elected to the Town Council in November 2021. Her grandfather was a former mayor of Franklin.
