Rob Bishop is a long-serving Utah Republican with extensive experience at both state and federal levels. He previously served as a Utah State Representative from 1978 to 1994, including two years as Speaker of the Utah House, and later as U.S. Representative for Utah's 1st Congressional District from 2003 to 2021. Most recently, Bishop returned to the Utah House of Representatives in May 2026 after winning a special election for District 6. He is currently serving out the remainder of the term through January 2027 and is the Republican nominee for the seat in November 2026. Bishop expressed excitement for his return to the Legislature, preferring its focus compared to Congress, and intends to leverage his federal experience on issues like land use and water.
