Born and raised in Erie, he graduated from Mercyhurst University with an education degree and earned a master's from Wilkes University. Before joining the legislature, Merski worked as a social studies teacher for the Erie City School District for 16 years and served on the Erie City Council for seven years. He was first elected to the state House in 2018.
