He first assumed office in November 2022 after winning the Republican primary and running unopposed in the general election. Born in 1965, he holds an Associate of Science degree from Columbia Southern University. A self-described far-right conservative and member of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus, Harris is known for his legislative work, including sponsoring the controversial South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023, which aimed to make women who had abortions eligible for the death penalty. He currently serves on the House Medical, Military, Municipal and Public Affairs Committee. Harris is seeking re-election in the 2026 cycle, facing a Republican primary challenge on June 9, 2026.
