His education includes a Master of Arts degree in Political Economy from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pacific Lutheran University. He has also served as a volunteer and mentor with Catholic Community Services and as an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America.
