He previously served in the California State Assembly from 2004 to 2010 and on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. Outside of politics, Niello worked as a certified public accountant and spent 25 years helping run his family's business, the Niello Auto Group. He holds a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley and a master's degree from UCLA.
