He previously served as the Chief District Court Judge in Judicial District 43, having first been elected to the District Court in 2010. His earlier career includes serving as an assistant district attorney for the 30th Judicial District, practicing with the firm Kersten, Davis & Wijewickrama, and serving as the appointed tribal prosecutor for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina State University and his Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
