Rupa S. Goswami

Rupa S. Goswami was appointed to the bench by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. in 2013, becoming the first South Asian woman judge in California. Prior to her appointment, she served as a federal prosecutor at the United States Attorney's Office for over 11 years, where she was Deputy Chief of the General Crimes, Domestic Security, and Immigration Crime sections. Her work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney included prosecuting cases involving cyber-crimes, terrorism, child exploitation, and environmental crimes. Earlier in her career, she was a litigation associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and clerked for judges in the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit. Goswami earned her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago.
