Russell Brixey has a long history with the fire service, starting as a volunteer firefighter after high school. He served as an EMT-IV in Yakima before returning to Mattawa in 1995, where he continued to volunteer as both an EMT-IV and a firefighter until 2019. He was first appointed and then elected to the Commissioner position in 2013.
