Ryan Calkins was first elected to the Port of Seattle Commission in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021. He currently serves as the Commission Vice President. In addition to his role as commissioner, he is an Advisor on Offshore Wind and Maritime Infrastructure at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Previously, he ran an import and distribution company and in 2007, founded the Seattle Microfinance Organization, a nonprofit that helps entrepreneurs with limited economic resources. His early career was in Central and South America working for disaster relief and human rights nonprofits. Calkins holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Willamette University. He was born in Edmonds and now lives in Seattle with his wife and three children.
