  • Affordable Housing

    Supports

Wilkins supported more incentives for first-time homebuyers, such as allowing renters with a history of consecutive on-time rent payments to obtain a mortgage at that same monthly amount rather than being judged on credit or a large down payment.

Home buying is an American dream that is slowly slipping out of reach for the middle and lower class. I believe there should be more incentives for first-time home buyers, such as if you can show a certain amount of years consecutively paying a certain amount of rent on time that you should be able to get a house with a monthly mortgage at that amount. Credit and a high down payment should not be deciding factors.

  • Agriculture

    Supports

Wilkins supported expanding local agriculture, including growing more farms and local produce and expanding the Farm Protection Area beyond Marion County.

I want to see more farms and local produce being grown, I want to expand the Farm Protection Area and provide more areas like that not only for our county but our state as well.

  • Energy

    Supports

Wilkins opposed allowing data centers in Florida, citing their environmental toll, and supported holding utilities accountable through more frequent meter-accuracy checks and greater use of solar power without high costs to consumers.

Data centers should not be allowed in our state for the toll it takes on the environment. As for utility companies, the taxpayers should not have to pay higher prices for the use of those utilities. Meters should be monitored more frequently for accuracy and reliability. They could look into utilizing solar power more without it costing the high price it currently does.

  • Environment & Sustainability

    Supports

Wilkins campaigned on protecting Florida's environment, including planting more trees, protecting natural waterways by restoring the flow of the Ocklawaha River, and conserving water amid population growth.

I want to improve the environment. I want our county, and our state, to be the most beautiful in the union. More trees and more plant life will provide shade and more oxygen. I want to protect our natural water ways by restoring the flow of the Ocklawaha River and find a way to better use our waters with our growing population.

  • Housing & Development

    Supports

Wilkins campaigned on a stronger growth management plan to prevent overdevelopment, holding builders accountable for infrastructure before new developments, building to individuals' needs (e.g., bigger lots), and reusing existing buildings.

A stronger growth management plan to prevent over development. Our state needs to hold builders more accountable by having them improve infrastructure if any new buildings or developments will be added, we need to build smarter and better, and build to the needs of the individual such as providing bigger lots for houses and getting away from blanket developments.

I want to bring about education reform. ... We need more of a focus on reading, writing, and comprehension in K-6; more support for teachers and administrators; and smaller class sizes to better support the needs of every student.
