Shandra Sims is a native of Jackson County, having grown up in Webster and currently residing in Cullowhee. She began her career in the Register of Deeds office in 1994, working part-time. She served as the Deputy Register of Deeds for 21 years before being appointed as the Register of Deeds in November 2021 to fill a vacancy left by the retiring Joe Hamilton. Her appointment by the Jackson County Commissioners was based on the recommendation of the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee. She subsequently ran for and won the election for the office in 2022.
