Shaneka T. Henson is a Democratic State Senator representing Maryland's Legislative District 30, a position she was appointed to in January 2025. Her legislative career includes serving in the Maryland House of Delegates for District 30A from May 2019 until her senate appointment. She is the first African-American woman to represent Annapolis in the Maryland General Assembly. Henson's public service began on the Annapolis City Council, where she represented Ward 6 from 2017 to 2019. An attorney by profession, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from Coppin State University. Before her career in elected office, she worked for the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's office and the YWCA.
