Sharice Davids was raised by a single mom who served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army. A graduate of Leavenworth High School, she worked her way from Johnson County Community College to Cornell Law School and was the first person in her family to attend college. She worked in economic and community development on Native American reservations and served as a White House Fellow at the U.S. Department of Transportation. First elected to represent Kansas's Third District in 2018, she became one of the first two Native American women ever to serve in Congress and the first LGBTQ+ Native American elected to Congress. A member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, she is trained in mixed martial arts.
