A lifelong resident of Millwood, Shawna Beese was appointed to the City Council in 2017 and subsequently won re-election. She worked in private healthcare for 20 years before earning a Ph.D. in nursing from Washington State University in 2023. She also holds an associate's degree in nursing from Spokane Community Colleges and a bachelor's in nursing from Gonzaga University. Currently, she is an assistant professor of rural health promotion at WSU's College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences.
