Shelly Arnoldi was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She served in the U.S. Navy's Civil Engineer Corps for 10 years, from 1991 to 2001. She earned a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from Marquette University and a master's degree in environmental engineering from Old Dominion University. Her career includes working as a licensed Professional Engineer, a federal civilian, and holding positions at the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art. She moved to Northern Virginia in 2010 and lives with her husband and four children.
