Sherry Powell

Sherry L. Powell is a judge for the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California. She assumed office in 2021 and her current term is set to end in January 2027. Prior to her judicial career, Powell worked for two decades in the printing and educational publishing industries, and also owned a graphic design business. At the age of 35, she decided to pursue a legal career and attended law school. She earned her B.A. in English from California State University, Long Beach, and her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. Before becoming a judge, she served as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County, where she prosecuted a range of violent crimes, including gang homicides, rape, child molestation, elder abuse, hate crimes, and human trafficking.
