Sophia Chitlik is a member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 22 since January 2025. Her career began as a field organizer for the Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaign, which led to appointments in the White House and the U.S. Department of Labor. She later transitioned to the nonprofit education sector, serving as a Chief Operating Officer for The Future Project. For the past several years, she has focused on impact investing, particularly in women-led and BIPOC-owned businesses and nonprofits. Chitlik was instrumental in the development of Aya Birth & Community Wellness, which aims to be North Carolina's first Black-owned birth center. She earned a bachelor's degree from New York University in Political Community Building. She has lived in Durham since 2017.
