Spencer B. Merriweather III has served as the District Attorney for Mecklenburg County (the 26th Prosecutorial District) since being appointed by Governor Roy Cooper in November 2017. Prior to his appointment, he was an Assistant District Attorney in the same office for over ten years, handling a wide range of cases. He earned his bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 2000 and his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2005. Before law school, he worked on Capitol Hill for civil rights leader and attorney Eleanor Holmes Norton. Originally from Mobile, Alabama, he now resides in Charlotte with his wife and daughter.
